App State Chess Club (Boone)

Our club is comprised of App State students and members of the Boone community. We meet Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 7:15 PM on campus. Mondays are our days to play games, and on Thursdays we analyze games, solve puzzles, and our club Vice President gives lessons; he is a scholastic champion from Texas.

Asheboro Chess Club (Asheboro)

Meetings are held every Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Asheboro Public Library, 201 Worth Street in Asheboro. Casual and rated play. USCF-rated quick tournaments are held monthly, please check website for dates. Players of all ages and strengths welcome.

Burlington Chess Club (Burlington)

We meet weekly: Sunday 2 – 5 PM. We play Chess at various time controls. Several members are USCF rated and some are not. Free beginner lessons.

We meet at the Fat Frogg restaurant at 2009 Timberline Station Dr, Elon, NC 27244.

Cary Chess Club (Cary)

We meet from 5 pm – 9 pm Wednesday evenings at the Caribou Coffee, 109 SW Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511 (corner of Kildare Farms Rd & Maynard Rd). We are focused on casual chess, all folks welcome, no dues. Some players have ratings, many don’t. The first Wednesday of each month we hold an unrated, G/15 tourney starting at 5:30 pm. Granville Chess Club (Creedmoor)

I am starting a New Chess Club in the Granville area (Butner Creedmoor). We play every Thursday of the month except on the third week of the month we play on Wednesday. We start at 5:00 in the afternoon till 7:30 at South Granville Public Library in Creedmoor. The address is 1550 South Campus Dr Creedmoor NC 27522. The library number is 919-528-1752.

North Durham Chess Club (Durham)

The chess club at the North Durham Regional Library, 221 Milton Road, Durham, NC meets. every Saturday afternoon from 2 – 4:30 pm for casual play. Players of all skill levels are welcome. There are no fees, and sets and boards are provided.

Triangle Chess Center (Durham/Morrisville)

The Triangle Chess Center sits conveniently to all parts of the Triangle near the Wake/Durham County line on Hwy. 54. This is slightly more than 1 mile south of I-40 exit 281 (Miami Blvd.) less than a mile north of NC-540 exit 69. We offer weekly tournaments on Saturdays for novice-level youths and seven-week-long leagues in the fall and spring. We have frequent events for Open level players on Saturdays as well. Starting in October we will again offer rated games on Tuesday evenings starting at 6:30p. We also offer public lessons on Sundays and Wednesday evenings. Lumberton – Kings & Queens (Lumberton)

Meets every Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. at the Parkview Activity Center in Lumberton. Membership is opened to all ages. Directions: entering Lumberton on N.C. State Road 41 from Fairmont, N.C. Stay on 41 until you pass Knuckles Elementary School and turn left onto Inman Rd. pass the school. You will see Parkview Activity Center as you turn onto Inman Rd. – about 100 yards down on the right.

Marion Chess Club (Marion)

The Marion Chess Club meets each Tuesday Night, Marion Senior Center (next to YMCA), 100 Spaulding Rd., Marion, NC 2875, from 5:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Casual play and open to all ages. The club also conducts a USCF Rated Tournament, every month, on the 1st and 2nd Tuesdays, of each month, August – December.

Wake Forest Chess Club (Wake Forest)

Meets Mondays from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Wake Forest Coffee Company (upstairs), 156 South White St. Wake Forest NC 27587. WFCC has played unrated matches with the Henderson/Vance CC and has held unrated Saturday events at the Coffee Company site. Usually about 8 to 12 players on a typical Monday night. Visitors are welcome!

Smoky Mountain Chess Club (Waynesville)

Our regular play meeting is Thursdays at 1 PM at Hazelwood Presbyterian Church in Waynesville(368 Hazelwood Ave, Waynesville, NC 28786). The church is across the street from the Hazelwood Post Office, and parking is behind the church. Chess is held in their fellowship hall. All players are welcome. We do ask that you bring a chess set if you have one.

Wilmington Chess Club (Wilmington)

Moving from Cape Fear Games to Pine Valley Church of Christ fellowship hall beginning January 6th, 2011. Club hours are from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Pine Valley Church is located at 3601 South College Road. This is near the intersection of South College Road and 17th Street Extension and is adjacent to the CVS Pharmacy on the northeast corner of the intersection.
